Frequently Asked Questions

It is important to have all your questions answered to put any queries to rest before we take your Rover on an adventure.
Please feel free to contact us if there is anything we have not covered!

Glad you asked! It’s really simple, all you need to do is give me (Tanya) a call at +1 (604) 781-7567 or send me an email at [email protected] and we’ll set up a free consultation over the phone or in person! We can meet at your home or go for walk where I can meet you and your pup and we can establish whether there’s potential for a good walking relationship. From there, we’ll schedule our first adventure walk together.

I sure am! Nothing is more important to me than the safety of your pooch, which is why I have Carpi insurance. I’m also a licensed dog walker in the City of Vancouver. If you would like to view the documents, I have ‘em ready and love showing them off. I am also certified with Walks n’ Wags Pet First-Aid Care.

At this stage, flattening the curve is definitely a priority, which is why I offer curbside pick-ups to limit physical contact. I also follow the general precautionary measures which include mask-wearing, vehicle and equipment disinfecting, and social distancing.

There are numerous good reasons to have someone walk your dog while you’re at work, help you with boarding while you’re on vacation, or just take your dog for a stroll around town:

  • Dogs get extremely lonely when you’re not around, so why not give them an awesome dog walking trip in and around Vancouver? They will enjoy some outdoor time with their paw-panions.
  • Urban life poses just as many demands as convenience. Which is why my schedule is specifically set-up to provide you with group dog walks and private dog walks, so you can focus on giving your pup relaxed loving attention in the evening after an eventful day for you both.
  • Getting dog-sitting services you can trust is a crucial part of enjoying your break or work travels without worrying if your paw-panion is alright.
  • Wherever you are, you have peace of mind knowing your pup is having fun, socialising, and getting the exercise they need without bothering the neighbours with constant howling!
  • By the time you get home, both you and your pup can have long cuddling sessions.
  • BONUS benefit: you can spare your furniture from being chewed. Dogs are generally naughty when they are under-stimulated.

For this type of adventure to work, your pup must demonstrate good recall and have basic leash manners. Also, we prefer spayed or neutered dogs with updated vaccine logs. Lastly, pups should be licensed by the city and behave calmly in the car.

Parents are responsible for all preventative measures regarding vaccinations. Pawz Unleashed prefers all dogs have their distemper combination, rabies, and Bordetella vaccinations up to date to ensure their and other dogs’ safety.

Though I prefer spayed or neutered dogs, it’s certainly a topic we can discuss at our initial meeting.

Unfortunately, reactive or aggressive dogs are a hazard on the group walks to the walker, the other dogs and to the public. However, depending on the severity and type of behavioural issue we can see what type of walk best suits your rover. We can discuss everything at our initial half-hour meeting. Who knows? We might be able to do private dog walks for you!

If you don’t live in any of these areas, please feel free to contact me to enquire about bordering neighbourhoods.

I have specific, designated dog parks, beaches, and trails in Downtown and East Vancouver that I enjoy exploring. I also frequent trails in Coquitlam Mountains and places like Everett Crowely Park, Pacific Spirit, and Spanish Banks Off-Leash Dog Beach. As part of our commitment to each pup’s welfare, we ensure we always email or text the areas we intend on visiting upon pick-ups and drop-offs.

There are various health and logistical reasons to both options. Here’s how you choose:

Choose daycare if:

  • Your pup is too young (8-12 months) to go on long walks and won’t be able to keep up with the rest of the pack
  • Your pup has specific needs
  • Your pup is too old to keep up with the pack

Choose adventure hikes and walking if:

  • Pups can fully exert all the built-up excitement, energy, and social needs that build up from staying at home
  • Your pup is developing behavioural issues due to under-stimulation
  • Your pup needs mental stimulation
  • They crave much-needed exercise

Pawz Unleashed ensures all walkers are pet-aid certified by Walks ‘n Wags and always carry first-aid kits wherever we go. We are also trained in basic dog behavioural management. The most telling assurance? We are dog-owners ourselves! We have loads of experience and ensure all doggies are screened before each group dog walk. Don’t stress! We have it all under control.

We recommend pups be at least 8 – 12 months in order to develop a basic sense of socialization, recall, and walking manners. Though all these behaviours are developed further during walks, it’s better for them to know the basics beforehand to ensure the safety of both your pup and the rest of the pack. We can always make an exception for younger pups if they display decent socialization skills – so be sure to discuss everything during the initial meeting.

Heck yes! We are, after all, talking about Vancouver here! Rain is more frequent than anything else! Besides, what is better than a mud puddle or snow heap? If there are any snowy days where driving conditions are compromised, Pawz Unleashed follows DriveBC recommendations to ensure everyone’s safety!

Generally, we either have a copy of the house keys or codes, but you also have the options of either leaving the keys somewhere I can easily access them, pre-determining a pick-up and drop-off spot, or letting someone else be home upon pick-up and drop-off. We also offer curb-side pick up as a Covid-19 measure for those who prefer that option.

  • Adventures hikes: 1.5 – 2 hours
  • Pick-up & drop-off: approximately 1 hour plus depending on traffic and construction, pack size, and weather
  • Total time out the house: approximately 3.5 – 4.5 hours
  • Of course! If you prefer, I can text you upon pick-up and drop-off. But wait, there’s more! Not only will you know when your pup leaves and returns, but also the exact location of our adventure – and some awesome pics will be sent your way throughout and after!

We carry towels at all times and give your pup a good wipe-down on those fun, muddy days! For those rainy, muddy days when your pup can get extra dirty, please leave an extra towel for us to give an extra pat here and there. Also, during our consultation, please be sure to show me the way to the hose (if you have one) so I can hose rover down some more! And finally, if there’s a specific area in your home you’d like to designate to your damp pooch, please feel free to let me know and I’ll leave him/her there upon drop-off.

Absolutely! No pup will feel dehydrated on my watch! With each adventure comes great thirst, so you can be sure that rover will be well hydrated throughout our journey. We will also fill your pup’s water bowl when we return home. Also, please let me know at our consultation if you’d like me to feed your dog too.

We only take a maximum 6 – 8 dogs per session depending on sizes and temperament. This allows us to pay particular attention to each pup.

All dogs, regardless of breed, should get at least one hour of exercise every day. Depending on the specific dog’s personality, he/she might need a little longer than 1 hour a day. Always remember: a walked dog is a happy dog!

For even more convenience, payments can be made via Email Interac Transfers or cash – whichever is easier for you! Please send all Email Interac Transfers to [email protected].

We operate on a first come, first serve basis. So, kindly note that spots are limited, and some clients might be turned away as a result. To avoid any inconvenience for other pet owners and walkers, we ask for 24-hour prior notice of cancellation or full charges may apply. Full charges also apply when your dog is not home upon pick-up. In cases of pet boarding, we require a 50% non-refundable deposit upon booking to reserve your spot.
